The Leeds Liverpool Canal: Bootle to Melling

Former Lancaster Canal South Section 47 -37 miles	Melling The last town before the urban sprawl of the Liverpool conurbation. Aintree Famous for its racecourse and the Canal Turn. A residential area, the towpath can be quiet and passes through housing estates. Litherland The cranes of the riverside docks can be seen from the towpath. When the Leeds Liverpool canal was cut the area was open fields, now it has 1970 council estates and new modern flats. Litherland was the furthest industry reached from Liverpool. The site of the tannery is now a housing estate. Rimrose nature reserve Through the overgrown bushes you might be able to see the signs of 1980s development: cycleways and benches.
