Pagefield
Home to the Pagefield Iron works.
Crooke
There was once a canal branch which went straight into a coal mine. The junction with the tunnel branch is now the site of the marina.
Dean Locks
Here the canal from Liverpool met the River Douglas before the canal was extended to Wigan.

Appley Bridge
Used to be an industrial area with factories on the canal side. Now there is only light industry and much of it is hidden behind the trees.
Parbold
Notable for its sail-less windmill. The site of the aborted route north to Lancaster.

Appley Locks

Originally Appley Locks had just two locks, an upper and lower one, these were later replaced by a single lock which saved water. The duel locks are now closed and in poor condition.
